Synopsis
Featuring Choi Soo-jong, Chae Shi-ra, Song Il-gook, and Soo Ae, Emperor of the Sea is a South Korean television drama series helmed by Kang Il-soo and Kang Byung-taek. There were 51 episodes that broadcast on KBS2 between November 24, 2004, and May 25, 2005, at 21:50 on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The historical drama is adapted on the same-titled novel by Choi In-ho. The narrative follows the life of Jang Bogo, a slave-turned-mighty sea tycoon who controlled East Asian trade and the seas during the Unified Silla Dynasty.
As a result of its widespread acclaim, the drama spent most of the weeks it ran at the top of the ratings. Additionally, it made almost $1.8 million in profit when shipped to eight different countries.
Even the location of the filming, Wando County in South Jeolla Province, became a popular destination for tourists.
